Welcome to HAA Basketball!!!

It is the mission of HAA Basketball to provide a safe, recreation basketball program for youth in the Harvard Public Schools. HAA Basketball encourages good sportsmanship, developing strong playing skills, and promoting a friendly relationship among the players, coaches, referees, and parents. HAA Basketball serves our community by offering inclusive basketball programs that teach fundamental skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship in a fun, safe, and competitive environment.

Please explore our site to find out more information about the programs we offer. TWO NEW PROGRAMS THIS YEAR! We are hoping to pilot a new approach to our K-2 program with a Boys 2nd Grade Group and Girls 2nd Grade Group! This is different than how we’ve done this in the past, where second graders have been co-ed. If registration numbers allow and there are sufficient adult volunteers, we are also looking to offer a 7th/8th Grade Nashoba League program.

Lastly, we are a fully volunteer-run organization led by parents who lead otherwise very busy lives! We are always looking for parents willing to help coordinate leagues, coach, help with marketing, or do any of a myriad of other things necessary to run the league. Please reach out if you are interested in lending a hand!

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT SEASON!

Harvard Youth Basketball Girls & Boys Win NYBL 5th & 6th Grade Divisions

The Harvard Athletic Association (HAA) Basketball program recently wrapped up its season with an array of thrilling playoff and championship games featuring both the 5th & 6th Grade Girls and Boys teams in the Nashoba Youth Basketball League (NYBL).

The Harvard 5th & 6th Grade Girls - Marciniak/Robertson/Nohl team showcased a remarkable performance in the playoffs, securing a spot in the finals against Clinton-Zancewicz for the NYBL- 5th & 6th Grade Girls - Division B championship at Clinton Middle School. Monday night the team was able to fight back early championship game jitters to tie Clinton-Zancewicz 11-11 with a quick basket as the halftime buzzer sounded. At halftime, players refocused on moving the ball and spreading the floor. The team’s brand of selfless basketball shined in the second half leading to an exciting 29-19 team victory.

“I am incredibly proud of the effort our hard working players displayed all season long. Our team consistently displayed our themes of good sportsmanship and having fun, while always hustling up and down the court. It has been extremely rewarding to see the girls develop as individual basketball players and as a team,” said Coach Ben Marciniak.

On the same night, two Harvard 5th & 6th Grade Boys teams (Team Roy/Meserve and Iverson/Stukas) battled in the finals for the NYBL- 5th & 6th Grade Boys - Division C championship at Berlin Memorial Gym. Team Roy/Meserve took the lead early in the first half building on a pair of three pointers by Charlie Roy and hustle baskets by Hakeem Tate and Matt Meserve. But Team Iverson/Stukas kept it close with perfect execution of the "drive and dish" strategy and great free throw shooting.

The second half unfolded as a defensive showdown, with both teams fiercely contesting possession and exchanging baskets to maintain a narrow one-point margin in the closing minutes. With less than a minute remaining, Charlie Roy was able to connect on a mid range jumper putting Team Roy/Meserve in the lead by one. In the closing seconds Team Iverson/Stukas attempted a great shot but it bounced off the rim and Team Roy/Meserve was able to recover and run out the clock to secure a 25-24 victory!

"I could not be more pleased with Harvard basketball right now. These playoffs were a representation of how far all our Harvard basketball players have come and it is an honor to be a part of it,” said Coach Christopher Roy.

Reflecting on the season, HAA Basketball President and coach, Sarah Tufano, expressed immense pride in the growth witnessed across all teams. "It's been a thrilling season for all of our Harvard Youth Basketball teams," Tufano remarked. "We’re very proud of the progress across the teams and we're immensely proud of our players for their dedication and sportsmanship."

As the season comes to a close, Tufano took a moment to extend heartfelt gratitude for the support from the community. "As we wrap up another season, we want to recognize and thank our coaches, parents, the schools and community supporters who have contributed to our program and our players' success," Tufano emphasized. Looking ahead, the Harvard Youth Basketball community is excited to grow and advance the program across all age groups and eagerly awaiting the next season.
